I'm glad I did my research as I was going to go cheaper. This are smooth, yet effective on pushing the pedal to the metal!! Lol. It grips your shoes instantly and sometimes I mistakenly start on the outer edge, but roll with it, so I won't stall out, but it does amazing at keeping my feet planted. As I stand up and move my body forward, I can easily slam on the pedals and my foot wont slip and cause shin damage or other catastrophe.

Great pedals. These platforms are larger than my Oneups and Crankbrothers Mallet "clipless" pedals, so I've had a few pedal strikes. The grip pins are grippy enough. Of course nothing is as "locked in" as clipless, but at least you can put your foot down quickly to keep from falling down the hill.
